A 20-Year-Old in New York Used Extreme Couponing to Donate $110,000 to Charity

There’s a 20-year-old from Scarsdale, New York named Hannah Steinberg who uses COUPONS to help charities.    She became obsessed with the show “Extreme Couponing” when she was 14.  That’s the reality show on TLC where people use huge amounts of coupons to save money, and buy a ton of stuff.  But Hannah realized they didn’t USE most of the stuff they bought.

So she decided to do the same thing, but for a good cause.  She saved a bunch of coupons, and got enough toiletries and canned goods to donate to a local homeless shelter.  And when she shared the photos, people started sending HER donations, and their old un-expired coupons, even some that are 20 years old.

So in 2014 she turned it into a non-profit called Our Coupons Care, where she and her college friends cut coupons, fill up shopping carts, and do monthly trips to donate the stuff they buy to shelters, hospitals, and schools.   And so far, they’ve donated $110,000 of food, toiletries, and school supplies.

(Here are a couple of photos of Hannah with some of the stuff she’s bought.)
