A Personal Trainer in Florida is Teaching a Homeless Woman to Read

There’s a 25-year-old personal trainer in Orlando named Greg Smith, who used to pass by a homeless woman on his walk to work every day.  She never asked for money, she just always said hello.  So he decided to take her out for lunch a while back.  Then they started having lunch every Tuesday.  Her name is Amy Joe, and she looks like she’s in her 30’s or early 40’s.

And it turned out she’s not homeless because of drugs or anything like that.  She doesn’t even smoke or drink.  But she can’t get a job, because she’s basically had no education, and never even learned how to READ.

So a few weeks ago Greg started TEACHING her.  And he’s been giving her a new book from the library every time they meet for lunch, so she can practice on her own.

He posted about it on Facebook last week, and thousands of people have been sharing it.  So he also started a GoFundMe page for her last Friday.  And as of last night, he’d raised about $3,000.  If you want to donate, just check out the “Amy Joe Foundation” page on GoFundMe.com
