Director Rick Korn shared, “What makes this song so amazing is the multi-generational and multi-cultural effect it has on people around the world even to this day. However what makes this song and film unique is that it gave Harry a platform to launch his hunger charities like WhyHunger. 50 years later, WhyHunger is helping millions of people in 24 countries around the globe at a very crucial time in world history.”
Producer Jason Chapin stated, “My father wrote many unforgettable story songs but ‘Cat’s In The Cradle’ is by far his best known and it continues to have an impact on millions of people around the world. I’m thrilled at how the film captures so many wonderful stories about the song and my father told by music legends, fans, family and others.”
“SiriusXM has supported WhyHunger’s Hungerthon for 17 years, and as the recipient of the very first Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award, it’s an honor for me to be included in this film,” said Bob Buchmann, Director, Music Programming, SiriusXM.
Rhino is also now introducing Harry Chapin’s “Now Playing” – available for pre-order now. This tracklist highlights Harry Chapin’s mix of storytelling ballads and lighter narratives including “Cat’s In The Cradle.”
Jason Chapin, Rick Korn, and S.A. Baron were all recent recipients of the 2024 Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award, presented by WhyHunger, honoring their philanthropic efforts and the role their documentaries play in advancing Harry Chapin’s legacy and commitment to food and social justice. The documentary will benefit WhyHunger, Long Island Cares and the Harry Chapin Foundation.
