Well, the folks at Dictionary.com have officially given up. They just unveiled their Word of the Year. And for the first time ever, it’s a term with NO definition. (???)
Dictionary.com’s Word of the Year for 2025 is “6-7”, a slang term kids can’t stop using. The irony is it’s meaningless, or not, no one knows. (“South Park” did a whole episode about it this month.)
You kid would tell you it came from the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by rapper Skrilla. But even he can’t explain what it means.
(Check out the interview he just did with Genius.com. It’ll leave you even more confused. WARNING: There’s lots of profanity in that video.)
Dictionary.com defines it as “a viral, ambiguous slang term” that’s “largely nonsensical.” But they say it CAN mean “so-so” or “maybe this, maybe that.”
In general, they say it’s just an example of “BRAINROT slang.” Meaning, a term intended to be “playfully absurd.”
(They also shared 10 other terms that made their shortlist this year. They include “aura farming,” “broligarchy,” “Gen Z stare,” and “tradwife.”)
