10 Things That Happened 10 Years Ago This Week

TheTopicalFruit.com did another round-up of 10 things that happened 10 years ago this week.  Here’s what was in the news a decade ago.

1.  Charlie Sheen announced he was HIV-positive.  He broke the news in a “Today” show interview, and revealed he’d known about it for four years.  He’d been paying people off to keep it a secret, to the tune of around $10 million.

2.  Jared from Subway was sentenced.  He got 15 years and 8 months in prison for child sex crimes.  He won’t be eligible for parole until 2029.

3.  Oxford Dictionaries’ Word of the Year was an emoji.  It was the first time they gave it to something that wasn’t a “word”, the “Tears of Joy” emoji.

4.  Psychics predicted Han Solo would die in “The Force Awakens”.  A lot of “Star Wars” fans also predicted it, so it didn’t really take psychic powers.  (Spoiler Alert:  They were right.)

5.  Carly Simon revealed “You’re So Vain” is partly about Warren Beatty.  She said the second verse is about him.  The other two men it’s about are still a mystery.
