If you’re someone who tosses a jar of salsa the day after its expiration date, this might be cringeworthy to hear.
A bottle of booze was discovered, that experts believe is around 150 YEARS OLD. That dates back to the 1870s or ’80s. It was found in Utah of all places, on U.S. Forest Service land used by a ski resort.
An actual archaeological team exhumed it, and one of them said, “When they picked it up, it was still full. It still had a cork in it. We realized, ‘Oh my gosh, this is a real treasure.'”
They got High West, Utah’s oldest legal distillery, to analyze the bottle’s contents. And someone there TASTED IT.
That guy said, “I had a little bit of trepidation going into it, but you have to try it, it didn’t smell like gasoline, didn’t smell like tobacco spit, [the flavor was] fruity, there’s a little bit of leather, there’s quite a bit of age on it.”
The experts said the liquid appears to be a low-alcohol beer, and they’re hoping to recreate the beverage using the yeast.
