
Alex Van Halen is currently looking for a vocalist to sing on an upcoming album featuring unfinished Van Halen songs that the late Eddie Van Halen was working on before his passing. One contender has already emerged in the form of Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst.
As previously reported, Alex is working with Toto’s Steve Lukather to complete the album that features drumming from Alex, guitar playing from Eddie, and bass playing by Wolfgang Van Halen. They had hoped to get Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers to sing on the effort, but he wasn’t able to do it.
Alex said of the singer search, “Music is not so much about music as it is about people having a shared experience. I’m 72. We gotta find somebody in that age group who was exposed to the same musical experience that we have. Otherwise, it doesn’t have the depth.”
Enter 55 -year-old Fred Durst, who saw Consequence‘s article with the above quote on X/Twitter (see below), and threw his backwards hat in the ring, commenting, “Let’s go!! I’m ready.”
While Durst continues to campaign for the Van Halen singing gig, fans can catch Limp Bizkit at the 2026 US festivals Inkcarceration and Rock Fest this summer, as well as Creed’s Summer of ’99 and Beyond fest.
