There are Gen X’ers Googling what they need to retire. Meanwhile, others have been working SINCE THEY WERE BORN.
Mr. Clean has just announced that he’s retiring. Yeah, the jacked, friendly bald guy with the earring who’s on your bottle of household cleaner.
He said, “The rumors are true! I’m retiring and saying goodbye to the world of cleaning to pursue new hobbies. I’ve earned a little time off.” Mr. Clean has been on the job for 68 years, since 1958, with pretty much the same commercial jingle throughout.
It doesn’t sound like he’ll be replaced. (Thanks, A.I.!) (???) Procter & Gamble says there won’t be any significant branding or product changes, Mr. Clean is just retiring on March 4th.
It’s worth pointing out: The company says you should “stay tuned” to find out what’s next for Mr. Clean, so there’s a good chance this is a marketing stunt or the start of a new ad campaign, like when Planters “killed off” Mr. Peanut.
(Here’s video of the “announcement.” Here’s a Mr. Clean commercial from the ’50s . . . and a more recent one.)
