Take note: The word they used here is “replace,” not “change.”
A writer for “The Guardian” is going viral with a story on how underwear doesn’t last as long as you think. Some experts claim you should replace old underwear every SIX MONTHS. (???)
It’s not new advice, but it got a mention in a recent “Financial Times” article. The owner of an underwear company talked about it, probably because she wants us buying more underwear. But she also didn’t pull it out of thin air. “Doctors generally recommend replacing underwear every six to nine months, [because] washing doesn’t remove everything.”
In other words, washing your underwear doesn’t get rid of ALL the bacteria you left behind. Viruses and funguses too. And yes, there’s science to back it up.
The general advice online is to replace underwear after six months to a year, or after a maximum of “50 washes.” So, if you’ve been keeping track, and you’re on wash #49, maybe hit the store soon.
