If you’ve ever dated online, you’re familiar with swiping. It’s how you let the person know you like them. Swipe right, “you’re hot”, swipe left, “no thank you.”
But that might be a thing of the past. At least on Bumble. Because Bumble just announced that they’re officially moving away from the classic swiping setup that has defined online dating for the last decade.
The CEO of Bumble said people are burned out with dating apps, so instead they’re going to be leaning heavily into A.I. (Ugh, who isn’t?)
The company has been testing an A.I. assistant called “Bee”, which recommends matches based on personality, communication style, and relationship goals.
But not everyone is so sure. Someone online said, “Will my A.I. lovebomb me for 4 months then ghost?”
And Bumble is also dropping its longtime rule that required women to make the first move. The CEO said, “We will not force one gender over another to do something first.”
The new features are expected to start rolling out later this year.
(Oh great, now the robots are going to pick who I date, too?)
