Do you remember the first time you “Googled”? Whenever that was, the search bar has always looked the same. Until now.
For 25 years, Google’s search box was a long, slender bar, where we typed in stuff like, “How long is chicken good?” , “Is permanent marker permanent?”, and “How long should a hug be on a first date?”
Yesterday, Google said the A.I. shift inspired them to overhaul the dimensions of the search bar for the first time since 2001.
The box is bigger and more interactive, so that people can ask even longer questions, upload photographs and videos, ask questions vocally, and use A.I. mode, including particular A.I. models and agents.
People can also ask follow-up questions with a chatbot within Google’s main search page.
That seems complex, and they are making it less simple and elegant, however, it’s ultimately supposed to be more powerful than a simple Google search with a simple set of results.
That said, Google DID say that they aren’t really FORCING A.I. on anyone, for straight-forward stuff, it’ll still work as the classic Google search always has.
(Google doesn’t want to alienate people who just want the same Google search they’re used to, but soon, it’ll just be all A.I., if it isn’t already at its core.)
