Everyone loves cookouts over Memorial Day weekend. And when you go to a cookout, you probably have an idea of what to expect on the grill, but the SIDE DISHES are LESS predictable.
A new report looked into the most likely Memorial Day side dishes across the country, and it features some fun stats:
Nationwide, salads of all types are the most likely side. They say there’s a “7.8% implied probability” that a salad will show up on the table, followed by potato chips at 5.8%.
Pickles are next, followed by asparagus, mac and cheese, elote (Mexican corn on the cob), “cowboy caviar,” and nachos. (If you’re a city slicker, cowboy caviar is basically a bean salad or dip.)
The five states where you’re most likely to get a homemade SALAD this Memorial Day are: New York, California, Hawaii, Arizona, and Nevada. There’s no guarantee it includes anything GREEN. It could just be a “HEALTHY SERVING” of mayonnaise in a potato salad or pasta salad.
The five states where you’re most likely to get a store-bought side, like POTATO CHIPS are: Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Missouri.
There’s also a rundown of the most popular side dishes in every state, like . . .
You have an 8.5% chance of getting asparagus in Iowa.
You have a 6.5% chance of getting Buffalo chicken dip in Maine.
You have a 7.1% chance of getting cowboy caviar in North Dakota.
You have a 7.6% chance of getting elote in Oklahoma.
