Depeche Mode are gearing up to release their new concert film, Depeche Mode: M, in theaters on October 28th, and now, they’ve confirmed a physical release for both the film and its accompanying live album, Memento Mori: Mexico City, out on December 5th.
The new physical releases include CD/DVD and CD/Blu-Ray bundles of Depeche Mode: M and CD and vinyl pressings of the live album Memento Mori: Mexico City. The concert film will be divided into two DVDs or Blu-Rays and two CDs: The first disc will feature the entirety of the Depeche Mode: M film, complete with archival clips and non-concert footage of the band and Mexican culture at large, with the second disc being the just footage of their Mexico City concerts in setlist order, Memento Mori: Mexico City. Each film bundle also includes a copy of the live album.
The physical releases for the live album will arrive in standalone 2xCD and 4xLP vinyl formats. Both editions are comprised of over two hours of music captured during Depeche Mode’s three-night stand at Foro Sol in Mexico City for the group’s Memento Mori tour. They also include four previously-unreleased bonus tracks from the Memento Mori sessions: “Survive,” “Life 2.0,” “Give Yourself To Me,” and “In the End,” the last of which will be revealed as a single on Friday, October 24th. Both releases will also include exclusive live photos from the Foro Sol shows.
Directed by Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, Depeche Mode: M depicts Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, and their backing band running through their setlist to three sold-out, passionate crowds, while Frías combines footage exploring Mexican culture, tradition, and their relationship to death. At the time, the tour served as Depeche Mode’s first outing without founding member Andy Fletcher after his death in 2022.
“At its core, our new film ‘M’ is about the deep connection between music, culture, and people — and Fernando Frías, who directed and conceived the film, did a beautiful job telling that story that through the lens of Mexican culture and our shows in Mexico City,” Dave Gahan said in a press release when announcing the new project. The film arrives in limited theaters on October 28th, with the live album and physical editions of Depeche Mode: M and Memento Mori: Mexico City set for release on December 5th.
