2025’s Best Cities for Halloween and Trick-or-Treating

If your kid wants to try trick-or-treating in a NEW neighborhood this year, maybe suggest, Jersey City, New Jersey.   An annual report ranks the best cities in America for Halloween, based on 20 different factors.

They look at all kinds of fun things, like parties, costume stores, chocolate and candy stores, haunted houses, pumpkin patches, farm events, movie theaters, plus the typical weather on October 31st.

And New York City is #1 almost every year.  This year is no different.

Of the 100 cities they considered, the 10 best cities to be in for Halloween this year are:  New York City, Jersey City, L.A., Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, Anaheim, California, Boston, Gilbert, Arizona, and Newark, New Jersey.

They also specifically looked at the best cities for trick-or-treating, based on walkability, population density, crime, and how much competition there is, meaning how many people there are younger than 15.

And this year, Jersey City is #1, followed by nearby New York City.

Then, Gilbert, Arizona is third, followed by Boston, Newark, St. Paul, Minnesota, Laredo, Texas, Santa Ana, California, Hialeah, Florida, and Chicago.

If you’re curious, the WORST places to be trick-or-treating are:  Birmingham, Alabama, Memphis, Tennessee, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and New Orleans.

(For better or worse, trick-or-treating seems like it would be EXTRA SPOOKY in New Orleans.  Since half the “ghosts” you see on your route could very well be REAL.)
