Bills and monthly expenses sure add up fast. And families are looking to save money anywhere they can.
But there are savings to be found, if you’re okay tightening a few daily habits. Here are seven moves that are easy to stick with. And could wind up saving you some decent money.
1. Unplug your electronics. TVs and game systems pull power even when they’re off. Smart power strips make it easy to shut them all down at once.
2. Seal up any air leaks. Drafty doors and windows let money escape. Use some weatherstripping and caulk to keep your heated and cooled air inside.
3. Turn down the water heater. Most people set their water heater to 140 degrees. Dropping it to 120 degrees saves energy and still keeps showers hot.
4. Plan all your meals before shopping. A simple weekly plan can cut down on food waste and impulse buys.
5. Cancel subscriptions. Keep only what is necessary. (Easier said than done.)
6. Make DIY cleaning products. Vinegar and baking soda clean just as well.
7. Skip the heated dry cycle on your dishwasher. Air drying works for free.
