30 years ago, it’d be IMPOSSIBLE to imagine NOT going to actual stores for everything. Now, it’s very possible to RARELY need to go to a physical store, which is why a lot of storefronts are becoming vacant.
According to the “Wall Street Journal”, retail landlords leased more space last year to service-oriented tenants than those selling goods. And this is the first time that’s ever happened.
The most common types of “services” are “wellness and fitness” centers, including gyms, spas, yoga studios, and newer trends like places for IV hydration and vitamin infusions.
(Most people don’t really care WHAT goes into a shopping center or strip mall, they just want SOMETHING useful there. There’s nothing worse than being surrounded by empty, decaying buildings and complexes.)
