We’ve heard stories about criminals outing themselves on Facebook. I guess this is just a sign of the times.
A 19-year-old college student named Ryan Shaefer damaged 17 vehicles in a Missouri State University freshman parking lot in late August.
He shattered windshields, ripped off windshield wipers and side mirrors, and dented hoods. It’s unclear why he did it, but it happened at 3:00 A.M.
Ryan was caught on surveillance cameras, but when the police tracked him down and interviewed him, he denied that it was him.
The authorities seized his phone, and found a ChatGPT conversation from 3:47 A.M. that night, where he described the damage, and asked if he could go to jail for this. ChatGPT urged him to “seek help.”
Turns out, you CAN get in trouble for it. Ryan was charged with felony first-degree property damage and is facing up to four years in prison.
