More Americans Say They’re Cooler Now Than They Were in High School?

Some adults fully accept that they are no longer cool, but here’s a twist: More Americans think they’re cooler NOW than they were back in high school.  (That, or maybe your definition has changed?)

In a new poll, 56% of people believe they’re cool now, compared to 43% who remembered being cool in high school.

Overall, 16% of Americans said they consider themselves “very cool”, 39% said “somewhat cool”, 24% said “not very cool”, and 12% admitted they are “not at all cool.”

Adults under 45 were more willing to cling to being cool, while Gen X’ers and Boomers were more willing to accept that they’re UNCOOL.  (Still:  Shout out to the 8% of Boomers who insist they’re “very cool.”)

And for what it’s worth, PARENTS of kids under 18 were more likely to think they are “very cool” than non-parents.  (Uh, if that’s coming FROM your kids, I think you’re being played, Mr. Cool Dad and Mrs. Cool Mom.)

But isn’t it cool, to NOT CARE about being cool?  People were asked, “How important is it to you to be cool?” And 42% claimed it was “not at all important.”  Another 31% said it was “not very important.”

15% of people said it was “somewhat important” and 7% of people said it was “very important” to them that they’re cool.
