There are people who are passionate about their collections, and there are also hoarders, but it’s still hard to make sense of this:
A 57-year-old maintenance technician spent the last 15 YEARS stealing wine worth around $550,000 from some of the top wineries in France where he had worked, just to stash it in his personal collection.
That’s includes around 8,000 bottles of wine, and according to officials, it doesn’t appear that he drank a drop of it, or sold a single bottle.
He was finally caught after security cameras caught him sneaking four bottles of wine from an employer, who went to the police.
It’s thought to be one of the largest cellar thefts in French history, and since his haul was intact, all the bottles could be returned to their owners.
The man said he had no plan for the bottles, he just wanted to, “sit in the middle of his cellars to contemplate them.”
