A Guy Calls 911 Nine Times Over $1 Worth of Beer

51-year-old Philip Chege was at a convenience store in Daytona Beach, Florida on Sunday.  And the clerk accused him of stealing a $1 can of beer.

The store didn’t want to press charges, even though Philip had shoplifted from them before.  So if he’d just walked away, we never would’ve heard about this.  But Philip couldn’t let it go.

He was DETERMINED to prove he didn’t steal $1 worth of beer.  So he called 911 to tell the police he was innocent.  The dispatcher told him that wasn’t an appropriate call for 911, and the cops headed out to the store.

When they got there and started talking to the staff, Philip called 911 again, to say he hadn’t done it.  Then he called back again, and again, and again.  By the time the cops walked up to him, he was on his NINTH 911 call.

So he was arrested for misuse of 911, but NOT shoplifting.  So, hey, message received.

(Here’s his mugshot.)
